The Devils Rain - Misfits

This is an album that I've been putting off, and now it's time to finally do it. The Halloween season is upon us and what better time to listen to this band then then. This is the sixth studio album by the Misfits, second led by Jerry Only. I remember digging this when it came out, and still like some tracks on here... but it's been a good 3 years since I've heard anything besides Land of the Dead and Twilight.

1. The Devil's Rain: Rain fall opens the album, mixed with a bit o'tunder. This is a pretty promising opening. The drums fade in and the rest of the band follows to open the track. Objectively, this opening really don't grab me. This is more of a one ear out the other. The way this is going I think it should cut maybe before the solo then explode. I know that's similar to Kong, but I think it'd work better and make the 50 minutes go by faster (there wouldn't be 50 minutes anymore).
2. Vivid Red: opening a lot more punchy, but wheres the kick. It still feels kinda weak. I don't know this doesn't do much for me either. I mean I've heard this before but there's kinda nothing there. 
3. Land of the Dead: This is a re-recording of the 2009 single of the same name. I'm glad they did that, rather than being lazy and reusing the same track they released over two years prior. This version is also pretty solid, and maybe it isn't punchy or strong, but it is catchy. This isn't as good as I remember it being the other times I've heard it, but I still like it. I mean this has the punch I'm more looking for you know.
4. The Black Hole: The most interesting thing about the track, and most memorable is the ending sound effect.
5. Twilight of the Dead: This was also a single in 2009, and it also happened to be re-recorded. I do like this track, thought in the context of the album it takes away some of the punch. Or rather some of the, may I wanna revisit this. I mean it still stands out, but it's almost like one track ends then you loop it, change key/lyrics and play.
6. Curse of the Mummy's Hand: I don't remember caring for this my initial 2011 listen. This track opens kinda stupid, and not even like campy and charming. It's like, really you really wanna do that shit. The song in and of itself it fine. But you know, I kinda miss Michale. The chorus by the way fucking sucks. They way he phrases it.... cringe. Plus he kinda kills the flow of the song.
7. Cold in Hell: This is an okay track, if you can get over the lyrics. I mean, it does go in one ear and out the other, but I'm not triggered. Also that whole second half of the song, they so fucking easily could have done something really interesting, instead they chose not to.
8. Unexplained: The two tracks flow, the sounds fade into this track, but that doesn't make it "aye, you're forgiven". Plus I can't really jive with this tune anyway. Some of the vocals are neat, but I feel like maybe mix it up.
9. Dark Shadows: I didn't realize they were making 80's pop music. I think they vocals are going for more of a 50's feeling, but like then do harmonies and turn the fucking band down. Like imagine how neat it'd sound if at the ending of the phrases they actually had harmonies. Like in a doo-wop manner. Then they sort of build into the chorus, why not add more harmonies or vocals the make it larger. I mean they kinda do later on, but it isn't strong enough you know. This is a large song, it needs to eventually overpower you and build you know. Maybe add the electric guitar and drums later. Open with vocals percussion and an acoustic guitar. I don't know, build it up, don't kinda do that but not have the pay off.
10. Father: This riff reminds me a bit of Judas Priest. Maybe like a less effective version of Electric Eye. Like the original before they figured it out you know. Kinda like the goofing around before you "get" the riff. Later on, while there is a change, like what the fuck. I don't even know.
11. Jack the Ripper: Metallica? This isn't terrible, but it makes me think... I really hope that I don't feel as numb towards Hardwired... to Self-Destruct as I have to the albums singles.
12. Monkey's Paw: It's kinda cute, in a it's not really way. I do think the harmonies work better here, but like I just feel like this is a jumble. Like not really as focused maybe.
13. Where Do They Go?: This title, it makes me think, "What can I say?". Sometimes it makes me think "Where Can I go?". This is a stupid track, but I gotta say, it works. The fucking 50's charm is there. This actually works, verses the other tracks that don't.
14. Sleepwalkin': This is okay, I mean I like it more than some of the weaker track, but like.... I still don't completely jive. It's just okay.
15. Ghost of Frankenstein: Really, how the fuck does that work. Frankly, isn't he just reanimated tissue. So like does he have a soul to even become a ghost. Or would like his soul be a mix of the souls of all the people who's bodies he's made of. Or is it that his brain would be the soul, or the mix, or I don't know and I kinda don't care really anymore. That intro doesn't really work, like they didn't even have a sort of thing to make this a different track. Maybe throw in strings in the pre-chrous.
16. Death Ray: Closing the album we get a song that actually has some energy. There's a punch and this is the closest they've gotten to the old version of the bad.

Overall I have to give this a 4/10. You know, I get why people don't like this. To be honest it isn't that great of a representation of what the group once was. It'd be like if Aerosmith continued without Steven Tyler or Joe Per.... oh wait. If you can look past the stupid stuff, and think of this as a sort of Jerry Only solo album, kinda in the way Vincent would continue Alice Cooper after 1973. I mean this isn't What The... bad, it's more.... it's more..... I don't fucking know. But it's not the worst thing ever, thought it could be maybe 13 or 12 tracks vs 16. This isn't anything they've come out with, excluding maybe DeA.D. Alive!, since this album *cough* Friday the 13th *cough*. Let's hope they make a reunion Live album and maybe a new album with Glenn and then close the book on the releases.

Okay so if they made this an Ep, made up of 3, 5, 11, 13, 14, 15 (with strings) and 16. Or maybe cut the first two tracks, I think it'd be a 7.

Famous Monster - Misfits

Thought I don't celebrate Halloween, outside of eating candy, I still love horror flicks. I would never dress up for he holiday, last time I did was in 5th grade, and I don't do parties (well depends on who's hosting). But in honor of my favorite horror themed band why not do this review? Since today marks the 16th anniversary of this album, why not pick this? I usually save the Misfits for October anyway, so there's that reason. Now this is, easily, one of the best albums by the group. While this was made during the period Michale Graves was the singer (1995-2000), and this was the second singer to be on a record. This isn't the first album to feature him, including LiveEvil II, it's his 3rd. The first album to feature him is good, American Psycho, but not nearly as good as this (if memory serves. I think they were going for more of a Danzig feeling on that record, this is the record where they come into their own.) And it's way better than anything Jerry Only as the singer put out (though Devils Rain ain't half bad, it's pretty good). I remember the first time I heard this album, hell I remember downloading it. It was while we were still filming Travel Bound, sophomore hear of High School. Riding in a car, waiting to get picked up. I remebwr telling certain people they are awesome, then that person didnt have any interest until I believe the following winter, when he got a Misfits shirt and was all the sudden a bigger fan than me. PS I'm just giving you a hard time, we've all been there. Hell I can still sing most of these songs..... but as you know rambling on and on and on isn't getting me anywhere. So let's review this [in my mind] "classic" punk album. I also plan, by the way, to review a few albums I like this month.... you know instead of reviewing a bunch of 2015 albums that were okay.

1. Kong at the Gates: This is the opening, and it's really just an intro. Nothing much happens, there is very percussion based, but it's supposed to give that feeling.
2. The Forbidden Zone: I doubt this inspired by Richard Elfman's classic 1980 cult classic (and one of my favorite ever) film of the same name. Mostly because their cut off is like.... I'd say probably 1968 maybe, for movies and stuff. But his just comes speeds right off the bat, and is a solid track. Like a lot of track there isn't a whole lot to say.
3. Lost In Space: This track is faster than the last track, and I really dig it. It shouldn't by all counts, there is very little difference between the track, but I still dig it. Also nice drum work Dr. Chud.
4. Dust to Dust: This riff reminds me of a song, like Hole or something like that. I could be remembering wrong, but like a girl punk song that would be in a Guitar Hero/Rock Band game. I also love the choruses on this albums.
5. Crawling Eye: The only real difference is the massive amount of feed back at the end of this song, and how it's heavier before that part.
6. Witch Hunt: When I saw this title, The Office title "Gay Witch Hunt" came to mind. This song is not about that though, I can't imagine they do a song about a TV Show episode that came out some 8 years after this albums release. I really don't have much to say about this track, I really can't think of anything to say.
7. Scream!: Sadly this was the only track to get a music video. George Romero did it. I liked it when I saw it.For whatever reason I don't really care for this song, I don't know why, it never really clicked with me. It's funny because it sounds different than the other tracks, like different enough to not just be a variation on the same track.
8. Saturday Night: This is a classic that is a call back to the 50's doo-wop. But they not only did a good job of recapturing it, they also don't use any words that are violent. I mean it's more punky, and uses overdrive and like a rock rendition. But seriously, this could be a cover of a 50's track of the style. It even has the "douche bag" lyrics, as once said by Frank Zappa (look it up). But this is so good, I can't tell you haw often I just play this song once or twice in a row. It's easily, in terms of my favorite Misfit tracks, up there in the league of We Are 138, I Turned into A Martian and even Last Caress. It also might not be the best solo, but I think it works. This is is one of those songs, like the original Science Fiction/Double Feature that you can't really hate. For me at least.
9. Pumpkin Head: This is another song that is different enough and is fast paced. This is a nice solid punk song, that I feel is going for more of a Danzig feeling. Except unlike on some tracks on American Psycho, he's singing like himself.
10. Scarecrow Man: While this may be a weak ass title, but it's probably got the toughest riff here. It is also another song that sounds different enough.The music here is very bluesy, with a solid solo. It's kind of a nice change of pace. I imagine, if AC/DC was more punk they'd play a song like this. I like this track.
11. Die Monster Die: While titled very similarly to the classic Die My Darling (the double die in the lyrics) it's still pretty sick. I mean the harmony vocals sound better than the harmonies on the early albums with Glenn. This is a pretty basic song, in the campy feeling that I got from the earlier tracks. Not much to say other than that.
12. Living Hell: Great track, great chorus. Also a song that would fit snugly on a Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack. This is, like most of the songs, very straight forward and to the point.
13. Descending Angel: This is a track that was later covered by Jerry Only's lead Misfits. And you know, the beginning, I'm just not feeling it. The chorus isn't half bad, harmonies, but it's nothing different here.
14. Them: This is based on the horror flick that's about Van Morrison's band before he went solo :). Not really, but I thought it was funny. This song isn't that bad, it seems there are two styles on this. The fun, campy sound and the more heavy dark sound. This is the fun campy. Also love the chorus, it vaguely reminds me of Cheepnis.
15. Fiend Club: I may be going crazy, but I have heard this riff outside of this track. But this is a nice change of pace. Seriously, I don't think a single track here sound like this. This would probably, hypothetically, be a great ender if it was more punchy. Like if they threw in a little Be Agressive.
16. Hunting Humans: This is a song I'm not very familiar with, never really listened to it. I really like the lyrics in the chorus, it makes me laugh. I love the double meaning you can take away from it.
17. Helena: This is probably one of the most complex songs by the band. It's certainly the best written on the album. It starts out with a riff that is probably the most memorable on the record, and continues this section for the verses. That part is fairly easy to listen to, not all that heavy. After this the track goes into double time and seems more chaotic. This section also contains the heaviest section on the entire album. The contrast of the two parts *kisses finger like chef (you know that thing they do)* perfect. You know, I think part of the reason I liked Dirty Rotten Bastards may be because its kinda similar to this track. Except this is far superior.
18. Kong Unleashed: This closes the album and is similar to the opener. This almost didn't have to be here. Like I think it should have been mixed in better to be the ending of the Helena. I know it segues into the track, but the right way to do a track like into this is something like Coming Home into Planets. I think if it was more like that, the feed back from the guitar, then it'd be a much better ending. You could leave in the Kong voice, just have it be part of the last track. 

Overall I have to give this album a 7.7/10. But in terms of writing it's probably less than that, but I love this thing. This is very similar style wise, lots of song sound similar. Usually that bothers me, but there's something about this that lets me just let go. Maybe it has to do with how its still kinda campy, though they embrace the camp more with Mike than before. I mean seriously, when your band is basically a tribute band to old campy b-horror flicks, its bound to happen. It's also a whole lot more fun listening to this than it is say Wolfs Blood. This is just, and I should hang myself for this, a group of guys having fun.... and I'm okay with it. Now I bet lots of people may feel this is a lesser album because it doesn't have Glenn. Something I believe is, unless you don't like the way the singer's vocals, there is always something redeeming about any line up change. From Squeeze to 5150 to Rock In A Hard Place, even (thought it kills to say this) Come Taste the Band. The only exception to that rule is when the bands been around too long *cough* if you were a band in the around or before the 80's *cough*. At that point, unless you have a fresh new take, don't get back together or even still be together. The thing that's so great about this is is sounds different than Danzig. It's sounds nicer, more appealing. Also I plan to do a 

Beneath California - Retox

This is the junior full length album by California's punk band RETOX. Now I've known about these guys since the announcement of the release of Ugly Animals Ep on Ipecac Records, back in 2011. I haven't yet heard all of YPLL which was their sophomore album released in 2013. Something I wanna try and do is do at least an album a month, for which it was released that month. Now I have a fair idea of what to expect on this album.

1. Die In Your Own Cathedral: The way this song starts out the album shows that if the songs are anything similar to this track it's a a lot of the same.
2. We Know Who's The Prick: This sticks to the angry punk noise sound that if you know them, you'll know.
3. The Savior, The Swear Word: I like the way the riff in the song kind of reminds me a little of a Mastadon song. I can't quite think of it but I'm gonna go with my gut and say Iron Tusk or Blood & Thunder.
4. Let's Not Keep In Touch: I like how this song kind of has a different rhythm to it than the last tracks.
5. Disappointing Grade: This is a song that I like, and I actually understand what he's saying.
6. The Inevitable End: This track doesn't really do much for me.
7. This Should Hurt A Little Bit: This is another track that doesn't do much for me.
8. Death Will Change Your Life: For whatever reason this track reminds me of the Dead Kennedys. At least the intro does a little of like Holiday In Cambodia. This track has enough variation within for me to dig it. I think it's the best track here, but you know... that's me.
9. Without Money, We'd All Be Rich: ...........
10. You're Only A Crook If You Get Caught: ............ While I was listing to this track I played my bass and honestly think I thought of a more interesting bass riff to play to this track, but who know. I like the tone of the bass on there though.
11. Wooden Nickels: This intro vaguely reminds me of the Sex Pistols' track Pretty Vacant.
12. Strong Wrong Opinion: I love the change of pace, this is a noise piece that I didn't expect.... well that is until that part ended. While I'm digging the track.... why not give me that noise piece. Or at least started and ended with it, or the continuation of it.

Overall I have to give this album a 5.5/10. It's only 22 minutes long, and to be honest the only real difference here is the lengths in tracks, but the tracks on their last album were longer too. I did end up liking this and song of the tracks here, but as a whole there were more parts that I just felt neutral on.I think I'll just stick to their Ep and Ugly Animals.

Kiss & Kill - Le Butcherettes

This is the, I believe, debut release by Le Butcherettes. This was released in 2008 and I'm just gonna do a quick review for today. Why not, this things like under 20 minutes right. So here we go.......

1. Feminist Politics: This song starts out with an electronic drum beat. It also features a woman talking in Spanish.
2. I'm Queen: This song starts out with a punk riff. This is relatively simple and reminds me of The Runaways or The Slits (I like the latter way more). It's a good song and I enjoyed it.
3. The Problems Hide In Our Backs: This is just the two girls talking. This reminds me of the G.T.O. album. The way that they would have tracks where they just talked, and the sound quality of it too.
4. Kiss & Kill: This has another solid riff that reminds me of One Way Or Another, but with variations. I actually like this song more than I'm Queen. This song is a little more catchy and guitar sounds great. 
5. Last Tear: This opens with a telephone conversation in Spanish then the song starts. The lyrics are obviously tongue-and-cheek. They are actually kind of funny too.
6. Honey Honey: This is a bluesy song. For some reason I am not getting bored of this song. Possibly because it's short, but still.
7. For You're Bleeding: This is probably my favorite song on this Ep, it's the funniest song on here, but it's also the best. I think the pitch wavers in the voices are pretty funny. This is a fun song and hopefully the next song will be good too. It's also the longest track too. This ends with a sound that sound's like a rappers gonna come on pretty soon, but the singer laughs and coughs.
8. Six More: This is the last song on the EP, and by this point there isn't really anything here on this song that isn't anywhere earlier in the album.

Overall this thing gets a 7/10. It's short, and doesn't really get overbearing because of that. I also like the kind of, what some would say as "filler". I think it's pretty funny and gives personality to the Ep you know what I mean.

¡Tré! - Green Day

I have done Green Day's ''trilogy'' albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and now ¡Tré!. The last two I wasn't huge on. I wasn't expecting to love, or even like this one. I'm not being debby downer, but I didn't expect much of this. Also I think that I'm just gonna try to do 5 a month. I want to do 10 a month, but I'm gonna at least get 5. This is also the longest of the 3, at 44 minutes. the second longest, is the first and it's 41, and the second is 36.

1. Brutal Love: This song starts out with arpeggios. It kind of sounds like a lullaby. This song kind of fits Christmas, December time. This isn't anything special, but I do like that they have horns in this song. It's nicer than "Kill the Fucking DJ". If if was on the radio I might leave it to hear it.
2. Missing You: This just sounds like a song from one of the last two. Maybe more so ¡Dos!. I don't think this is anything that I'd probably want to listen to just by choice. So to say
3. 8th Avenue Serenade: This song reminds me of ¡Uno!. But at the same time this doesn't really sound like Green Day to me. The lyrics might be more like "adolescent" but, I'm a Youth and I think that he kind of should sing about more mature stuff.
4. Drama Queen: This song isn't that bad, but it's too mellow to be Green Day.
5. X-Kid: I don't know.... ewh.
6. Sex, Drugs & Violence: I hope this song isn't as ''cool'' as it's title, that'd be mind blowing. This is a stupid song title. I don't know, whatever. I'm kind of spacing out a little. I kind of just want this to be over. :(
7. Little Boy Named Train: ..............
8. Amanda: Billie really has something for naming songs after girls who's names start with A or something. This is better than the last few.
9. Walk Away: The riff reminds me, a little in the beginning, of Sweet Jane by The Velvet Underground off, I believe, 1968's? Loaded. This song isn't horrible, but maybe that's just the Sweet Jane in my head.
10. Dirty Rotten Bastards: This song title reminds me of Johnny Cash's song Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog off, the only album that I know that it's off, Folsom Prison. FUCK NO! IT"S 6 MINUTES LONG!!!!!! This song isn't so bad at the start. It kind of has a little of the same feeling as Brutal Love. And the tempo changed. :) The Bass riff :), by far, on these three albums, the closest to Green Day I think I've heard. :) This song kicks ass. {8/10} :)
11. 99 Revolutions: This song isn't a let down, its just a "¡Dos!" ahahahahaha!
12. The Forgotten: This isn't that bad of a song either. The piano is actually pretty cool. It's like their version of Let it Be.

Overall I have to give this a 6/10. I don't like hating on this band, but I just wanted to give them chance. I'm not a hating on Green Day, I just want to be able to say that they have a few songs that I like, beside the few off Dookie. I kind of think that, along with almost every 80's heavy metal band, time to throw in the towel and call it quits. Track 10 & 12, maybe there's a ray of hope.

¡Dos! - Green Day

I think it's actually pretty funny. Why may you ask, we'll I forgot about the release date of this album. I went to pick up the Trilogy and Music From Another Dimension! and I see the new Green Day album, titled ¡Dos!. It is also the second of three albums coming out between September, 2012 and January, 2013. I did the review of the last one ¡Uno!, and I will probably do one of the next one ¡Tré!

1. See You Tonight: This is the intro to the album. It's like a minute and a half long. This song kind of reminds me a little of Sublime. Like on the 1998 compilation Acoustic: Bradley Nowell & Friends.
2. Fuck Time: Really?
3. Stop When The Red Light Flash: This song wasn't so bad, it kind of reminds me of Know Your Enemy off 2008's 21st Century Breakdown.
4. Lazy Bones: This is a decent song. I has this surfy vibe that I'm getting from the song. That might just be me, but that's kind of what I'm getting from this song. It also reminds me of These Animals EP.
5. Wild One: This song reminds me of a Weezer type of song. This is an Ok song. I could see it being on The Blue Album. So far this thing isn't pissing me off like the last one. Either that of Them Animals.
6. Makeout Party: I didn't really think anything special of this song.
7. Stray Heart: I could see this song being in a Christmas movie. The song's bass line totally reminds me of Jet's 2003 hit Are You Gonna Be My Girl, off Get Born.
8. Ashley: I actually couldn't tell the difference between this song and the next song.
9. Baby Eyes: This is a song I could see being in a Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
10. Lady Cobra: This song is another song I could see being in that game
11. Nightlife: This song is way different from the other songs. It has a vocal distortion on it making it sound more ';psychedelic''? There is also a girls voice. I think they were going for a dance floor song.
12. Wow! That's Loud: This is another song I could see being a Christmas song.
13. Amy: This song has like finger picked at the beginning. I think it's probably a song that most comparable to These Animals. This song isn't that terrible. I'm not crazy about it, but I think it's ok. It also has that Christmas vibe.

Overall I have to give this a 5/10. I don't like hating on this band, but I just wanted to give them chance. I liked this, but I flew by. Not in a goodway, but more of in a this is kind of boring way. I am going to do the next album though.

119 - Trash Talk

This is 4th album by Californian Punk Band Trash Talk. I found out about these guys over the summer when they signed to Odd Future Records. They are releasing this on that label, along with their own Trash Talk Collective. Now I don't know much about these guys, mainly because I just want to give this a listen. I did a review yesterday of Numbers by MellowHype, which was released the same day as this one.

1. Eat the Cycle: This song kind of reminds me of some type of song by Retox. The thing though is, it's not as interesting.
2. Exile on Broadway: I feel like this is a Stones reference. But whatever, This song kind of sounds like Slayer's song 2001 songs Exile but with more of a punk vibe to it.
3. My Rules: I didn't even realize this song started. It's sound like the others.
4. F.E.B.N.: This song is Ok.
5. Uncivil Disobedience: This song has the punk energy, it's just, I don't really find this interesting.
6. Blossom & Burn featuring Hodgy Beats & Tyler, The Creator: This song kind of starts out a little different, by that I mean it kind of sounds like "Doom Metal/Sludge Metal"ish. If that makes any sense. I think that Hodgy does an interesting job on the verse on the album. And also Tyler's verse is pretty cool too.
7. Reasons: Pretty much the same thing, I don't find these songs interesting.
8. Fuck Nostalgia: This kind of reminds me of a less interesting Motörhead. The title is kind of ironic. So wait, Fuck the Album?
9. Apathy: ....
10. Thanks, But No Thanks: At least this is more drum driven.
11. Bad Habits: .......
12. Swinging to Pieces: 3 more tracks to go.

14. Dogman: It's finally over.

Overall this album shall get a 5/10. This is my introduction to this band and I have to say that I will probably let it be background music. By that I mean I won't put to much thought into listening to any albums by these guys. I think that it sounds like a less interesting Retox album. Also this is way too long. It could have gotten away with 8 songs and been like an EP or something.

¡Uno! - Green Day

This is the new Green Day album, titled ¡Uno!. It is also the first of three albums coming out between September, 2012 and January, 2013. I did this review, thought I'm not a Green Day fan, but because I knew it would be a quick review. And also I could check this new album out. This album was produced by Rob Cavallo. That guy also did Eisley's 2005 full length Room Noises, and Paramore's 2009 Brand New Eyes.

1. Nuclear Family: This album, thus far, isn't that bad. I don't really like or dig it, but It's not terrible. It's Green Day. It's Ok, I'm not obsessed with it. I don't think it's anything special.
2. Stay The Night: So far on this album this is more quiet than the Green Day I know. The one I know is more Punky, this is more like a 90's album, not really punk, but more like. I don't exactly know how to explain it. It's more toned down. It actually kind of reminds me a little of The Cure.
3. Carpe Diem: This song is, I could picture these songs being on the radio. But even if they weren't Green Day songs.
4. Let Yourself Go: This song starts out sounding a little like the song Highway Star off 1972's Machine Head by the legendary Deep Purple. I don't think the "Fuck" in this song is necessarily needed. But this song is louder and faster than the past 3.
5. Kill The DJ: This is such a stretch. This isn't really anything I could have pictured them doing. I guess it's a kind of funny song. But It's not at the same time. I think that it's a decent. But "Shoot The Fucking DJ". Seriously. :(
6. Fell For You: This song didn't really make up for the kind of disappointment from the last song.
7. Loss Of Control: WHY DO YOU SWEAR. ONLY SWEAR IF IT MAKES A FEELING OR BRINGS A POINT ACROSS. I LIKED YOU SWEARING ON AMERICAN IDIOT MORE THAN ON THIS! Songs like this ruin the power of a curse word.
8. Troublemaker: I could see this being a Weezer song. It's funny, they have a song titled Troublemaker off 2008's The Red Album.
9. Angel Blue: I'm not even going to take this song seriously. "Fucking"
10. Sweet 16: If he swears then I think that I might tune the rest of this album out. This song kind of reminds me of These Animals. Actually, this whole album reminds me of These Animals EP. That song wasn't terrible.
11. Rusty James: This song could be a song that some New York indie band made.
12. Oh Love: This is the last song. I don't care for this one much.

Overall I have to give this a 5/10. I feel like I will probably give any album by these guys that. I didn't really enjoy this, but I didn't not. I didn't really hate it. I read about this album, and what Billie Joe said about this album and he said that they were going for more of a Early Beatles and something else kind of sound. I can see that, in a way. But I don't like it because of that. Billie needs to wash his mouth out, or at least know how to swear for emotional reasons. Curse words are supposed to being forth an emotion. He didn't even come close to even showing an emotion with that word. Listen to Avenged Sevenfold's title track to the 2010 album Nightmare. It's not you're nightmare "Its Your Fucking Nightmare". There is emotion brought with the way he delivers that, but not Billie. It's almost like it wouldn't make a difference if he even swore or not. 

Eat to the Beat - Blondie

This is the fourth album by New York, New Wave band Blondie. I've been crazy about this band now for about a week or two. My favorite song is Call Me. Though Parallel Lines is a sick album, I wanted to review the follow up, 1979's Eat to the Beat. These guys formed with Chris Stein and Debbie Harry in NY in 1974. There were various line up changes but the line up on this album is Clem Burke (drums), Debbie Harry (vocals), Chris Stein (guitar), Nigel Harrison (bass), Jimmy Destri (keys) and Frank Infante (guitar). Their last album, before the first breakup in 1982 was The Hunter and it has a song called For Your Eyes Only. It's not the movie version, though this is better then the shitty version they used for the movie.

1. Dreaming: This name of this song is titled Dreaming and that's the kind of vibe that I get from this song. I don't know why, but it kind of reminds me of like a New Waved Grease song. Like a song that would be in a more New Wave version of Grease.
2. Hardest Part: This song starts out with this type of funky feeling to it. There was a part in the lyrics that talk about a bomb. I think that's a reference to the song Atomic. The solo in this song is pretty cool sounding.
3. Union City Blue: This song starts out Ok. I'm not very interested in this particular song at the beginning of this song.
4. Shayla: This song starts out with an atmospheric feeling to it. I am not comparing it to, but it kind of reminds me of part of the song Pyramids off Frank Ocean's 2012 channel ORANGE. This is a soothing song. It has that surfy feeling to it, and it is a song that I could see being in Grease. I like the way the tone of this guitar sounds in the solo. It's kind of like a George Harrison solo when he used his Gretsch. But if it was more toned down and soft.
5. Eat to the Beat: I'm not surprised that this is the way the song is. It kind of reminds me a little of Eat the Rich off Aerosmith's 1993 Get A Grip. But more of in a "Energy Wise" and there's also a harmonica. Part of what I like about this band is the Guitar's and Bass riffs. This song has a pretty good one.
6. Accidents Never Happen: This kind of reminds me of Bryan Adams song Summer of '69 off his 1984 release Reckless. It was also his fourth album. I like that this song isn't boring. It's kind of more faster paced. Debby's singing on this is also kind of cool.
7. Die Young Stay Pretty: I like that this is a little shift in tone. This is more reggae styled. I like the way Debby's voice sounds when she does that Reggae voice. And the backing vocals sound cool too. I actually think that this song is kind of funny too. Bob Marley seems, at least to me, and I'm not being disrespectful in anyway. But he seemed to me, like on Jamming, he walked in the studio stoned and started Jamming. I think it's funny that the lyrics say though "Die Young" and then it says "Stay Pretty". I don't know, I find it humors.
8. Slow Motion: This song is ok. The first time through it I wasn't huge, but I do think that it's kind of  good break before the AMAZING Atomic. It kind of returns to the style of the other songs. But there is like a pre-chorus where it's set up and sound reminds me of Atomic.
9. Atomic: The first time I heard this I thought that it was bizarre, in the best way. Since then, I've been crazy about it. The song starts out kind of like a little harder then the others. Then the surfy riff comes in along with this like whammy sound. The tone of the guitar is probably, short of eargasmic, and probably even closer on the Vinyl version. Her vocals on this song only get better. I love that it's like this dreamy feeling from her vocals and then in the chorus it's even more dreamy and the dreamy feeling ends with an opposite sounding refrain "Atomic". In the breakdown it kind of reminds me of Heart of Glass but with a bass solo. 
10. Sound-A-Sleep: This is like a doowap lullaby. Not with the "doo doo wap wap", but with the arpeggios and keys. I think that someone, thought it doesn't say in the credits, is playing a triangle or something like that. It's kind of like a post A-Bom, so to say.
11. Victor: This has a heavier riff than Atomic and is kind more of a A-Bomb explosion. There are chants going along with the guitar. I'd have never expected this. This is like a march. I could see this being ''their'' post-Apocalypse song. This is a really sick song. After that melt down it goes into a shift of genre's for a couple seconds with the riff. Then it goes back. The one thing I wish was that that genre shift was a little longer. This is a cool song though.
12. Living in the Real World: This is a more upbeat song. I think that this is a good way to end an album. I think that this is a pretty good song. it's energetic energy. I think that her scream is pretty cool sounding. The song doesn't end abruptly, but it doesn't ends and doesn't fade.

Overall this gets a 7.4/10. This band has a type of a New Wavy/Punky/Surfy/Grease feeling I get from it. I think that, thought there are parts that aren't amazing, this is a decent album. Side 2 defiantly kicks the shit out of side 1. Oh one last thing, if you don't like the man from mars... well then, you're dead to me. Can't wait to check out the other albums.

Hear It Is - The Flaming Lips

This is the 1986 debut full length album, following their self titled 1984 debut Ep, by Oklahoma City neo-psychedelic band The Flaming Lips. I've heard this album once before and I wasn't huge on it. I thought that it wasn't that exciting and that I don't exactly know what more to say than I was let down. Well here is my second chance to this album.

1. With You: This song starts out quieter with Wayne singing along with an acoustic guitar. They were obviously going of a Wish You Were Here Feeling to the intro of the song. Then the song exclades into an all over the place, actually I think they did a shit job of doing what they wanted to, punk rock part that reminds me a little of The Cure. Though the Cure isn't really that much of a punk band. I think that it's a decent intro but I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be.
2. Unplugged: This song is more of a Cure punk song. This song also reminds me a little of The Cult. Not Cults, but The Cult. I don't like the open space of this song. They tried to make a psychedelic solo in it, but if you really wanted to do what they wanted they should have made everything tighter together instead of making it sound like it's in an open room.
3. Trains, Brains and Rain: This reminds me too much of The Cure to intrest me enough to really, really get into this song. This actually kind of sounds like the last song.
4. Jesus Shooting Heroin: With a title like this you have to make it a decent song. And guess what, they didn't. I think that the song is ok, but I feel like it could be more dramatic. The open space really hurts the song for me. There is a part in this song right before the solo, where it reminds me of Spike by the band Hunt Club. I actually did a review of them with their album Hunt Club Lp and look forward to hearing more stuff by them. I also feel this song could be shorter.
5. Just Like Before: I don't really find this song that interesting to myself.
6. She Is Death: This song just kind of sounds like an attempt at a Pink Floyd song.
7. Charlie Manson Blues: This song isn't that different than the others, but a little faster tempo.
8. Man From Pakistan: This song is like a punk song. This song is pretty much like the others.
9. Godzilla Flick: This song reminds me of Bob Seger's 1978 song Still The Same. The guitar does, but not the lyrics or anything else. But only in the beginning.
10. Staring At Sound/With You (Reprise): I wish the song was shorter. And the most upbeat song would be the last one.

This gets a 6/10. I think The Flaming Lips are a little over rated. But that's from what I've heard. I still am going to further my listen's on their discography. If you're a fan of The Cure or maybe The Cult or other bands that are contemporaries you might just like this.

Vacation - Bomb The Music Industry!

This is the 7th album by indie music collective from New York. They are from NY, ie place that doesn't really bring that much musically. Well outside of maybe Zorn. But I don't really like bands like this, or music like this, so I am kind of not expecting anything huge.

1. Campaign For A Better Next Weekend: I went into this not expecting to like it. This song kind of shook my feelings, not a ton, but made me feel like I might like it. This wasn't that amazing of a song but if this was like the rest of the songs this would get a decent review score. This song gave me a feeling of Coldplay so I was kind of excited. And the song builds.
2. Vocal Coach: This song totally sounds like a Weezer song. Absolutely everything, outside maybe the vocals, sound like Weezer. They even have that little xylophone sound that reminds me of Pink Triangle off 1996's Pinkerton. I can't explain how similar it is.
3. Everybody That You Love: This sounds like a punkish song that might be in a Tony Hawk video game. And outside of the vocals I get this feeling of Christian rock, for some reason. But that Christian thing isn't through out the whole song, only the beginning of the song.
4. Sponge Board/Baby Waves: This could be a cover of Our Prayer off The Beach Boys 1969 20/20 but was intended to be on the 1967 lost album Smile. Which has been released as a boxset featuring some of the takes of the songs.
5. The Shit That You Hate:  The beginning of this song reminds me of Green Eyes off the 2003 A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay. But that changes when they add electronic thing playing along with the vocals, and the feedback at that one part. Then they add strings and remove the feed back. This song is what I assume a ballad. The lyrics aren't that amazing, but I don't think that all of Weezer's lyrics "sound" that good. This song builds and is "epic?". Not for me, but maybe for you. The vocals on this just hurt it for me, a lot.
6. Hurricane Waves: This has a surf rock feeling to it. It is a typical one that I think you can tell that it doesn't sound that new.
7. Sick, Later: For some reason the like hook in this song reminds me of the theme song for that Victorious TV show on Nick. I have seen it in the past, mainly because sometime my sister has it on and I'm not doing anything. I don't watch it all the time, just on occasion, but then again who doesn't do that if they have a younger sibling. But anyway this song doesn't give me anything fresh.
8. Why, Oh WHy, Oh Why (Oh Oh Oh Oh): This song reminds me of like The Cure. I don't get exactly why, but it does. This song doesn't sound that far off from the last track.
9. Savers: As this progresses this starts to get repetitive. And it's a little too repetitive. The last 3 songs before this kind of sound the same. They add strings in this song, but it doesn't do anything at all for me.
10. Can't Complain: This has the feeling that I get from Hurts Like Heaven off 2011's Mylo Xyloto album by Coldplay. The difference, biggest, is there isn't as much electronics going on in there. I am glad that there is a little variation at this part. There is no need for swearing on this song, or on anyother songs on this album. They just put it in there for "shock value". And It isn't that sharking. The ending has this voice sample that I'm not gonna talk about cuz it's dumb, just remember that.
11. Everybody That Loves You: By this song I'm kind of looking forward for this thing to end.
12. Sunny Place Shady People:  This is like the electronic 8-bit solo for the last song, then they add in other instruments. The way this song ends sounds like they sampled Ronnie from Escape the Fate and more recently Falling in Reverse voice.
13. Felt Just Like Vacation: This is just a continuation on the last song. I think that the last three songs were supposed to be like a big melody. The ending of this album is ok, and it is a good way to sum everything up. There is like a 2 minute outro of an arpeggio that sounds like it getting out of tune. I think it sounds sweet. Nice way to end the album/vacation.

Overall I can't say I really liked this. I have to give it a 6.2/10. I think that this is something that people might like, and I kind of see it having potential, but I just don't like it. This thing is a big "Jumble Fuck" of genres, in a good way. Each song sounds different from each other. But then again, they are from New York. So, I got it free at their website/tumblr and I think you should give it a listen. I do want to review their future/past stuff to. So look forward to that. One last thing, the backing vocals kind of remind me of the choruses on a Bang Camaro song. This band also gives me this NOFX vibe, the vibe that makes me very much dislike NOFX.

Hunt Club Lp - Hunt Club

This is a band a group that I found out about via FrostClick. These guys seem to me like they would be folk or alternative rock or possibly even Indie. I don't know yet but based on the album cover that's what I get out of this. I think that this might be an intresting listen.

1. Knife Fight: The song starts out with an accordian, after the accordian intro a guitar comes in with the rest of the instruments. The verses are bass and drum driven. This sounds like this is an irish band. Unfortunatly I can't stand Irish music. The even sadder part is I'm pretty irish The ending of the song reminded me of System of a Down.
2. Mister Blue: This song kind of reminds me of Green Day rebellion, Irish pride, Lincoln Park. All music that i strongly dislike. This also sounds like it has a touch of Dropkick Murphys.
3. Drowning Man: This song starts out and it kind of reminds me of something that I would hear from like a thrash band. Well, at least an atempt. This sounds like they are trying to make this sound evil, but it's not doing it for me. This actually reminds me of a cheezy atempt to make a songs like Black Ssabbath's self titled song. This song kind of picks up, there is a part where it gets kind of cool sounding. I think that the vocals hurt this song, but then Punk vocals come in and it's actually pretty decent. And the song ends with a very cool guitar sounding riff. Kind of, at least the same idea as, Avenged Sevenfold on their song Turn the Other Way how the riff ends out with the song off the 2001 debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpets.
4. Punch Line: After hearing that last song, I realized that to enjoy this, you can't take it too seriously. This song is kind of cool, but its also kind of silly. This almost reminds me of My Name is Mud by Primus.
5. Spike: This is like a really cool continuation of the last song. I think that this LP has gotten better since I've waited to listen to it. This is a punk song, but it kicks butt. Seriously, I'm digging this song. There is a part when the song slows down and there are like Gregorian chants, sick.
6. Cappuccino: The intro sounds like a mix of Led Zeppelin/Whipping Post, that song by The Allman Brothers. I don't think the beginning of this song is as cool as the last one, but I still like it. There is a "scary/tripy" guitar sound and it is accompanied by other instruments. This song seriously could be a Pinkly Smooth/Ballistico song. There is this beautiful piano sounding part in this song that  brings a tear to my eye. It has this oprea voice that sings along with it and that is pretty much what ends the album, until this feedback comes in and pretty much engulfs everything else.

Overall after relistening to the first two tracks and then hearing the whole thing, I give this a 7/10. I can't wait to review the Live one they did. I feel like this is a mix of Southern/Punk/Primus so to say. I don't know, just give the whole thing a listen or two. The guys voice kind of reminds me a little of Ben from Ballistico. I don't know why, but only at certain parts.

Pink (Southern Lord CD Release) - Boris

I started listening to most of this album yesterday. This is a Japanese noise music band. They kind of reminded me of Boredoms or Hanatarash. I heard about them before but was re-introduced to them via The Needle Drop YouTube channel. This band sounds like and seem like I would like them very much. I have come accustomed to odd music (ie. Noise, Avant-garde, Experimental, etc.). One of the most interesting noise artists I've heard it Yamantaka Eye who has done bunch of different noise projects but anyway here is the review

1. Farewell: This track has a beginning to it that is kind of, in a way, something that makes me feel like something big is coming. And at 1:22 the heavy distorted guitar comes in along with the vocals. The only real difference between the song then and before is the distortion. This song reminds me of a Radiohead song off The Bends (An Album I'm gonna review). The song I'm thinking about off The Bends is I think Planet Telex. While listening to this it felt like a pretty long 3 minute song. Then when I looked I was shocked. The 7:33 minutes went by a lot faster then I thought it would.
2. Pink: I don't know if this is some type of vagina reference, knowing Japanese noise bands it probably is, but that doesn't take away from this. The riff and the drums and bass work awesome. I've heard this sounds before but the vocals make it sound different to an extent. This sounds like more of a traditional song vs Hanatarashi. The solo sounds like it was Jimi Hendrix influenced. And right after the solo the singing starts up again and in between that verse and the next there is a sole 3second fast picked note. That is pretty sick and this song is an really good way to come after Farewell.
3. Woman on The Screen: This is another punk type song. This song shares some similarities to Pink in the sense that he is singing on the song and the guitar riff and such. This is a good song I just don't really know what to say about it.The third time around on this song the riff reminds me of something The White Stripes would do. Actually this song seems like a White Stripes song, just more punk and faster drums. The drums on this song, and most of the album, remind me of the drums on St. Anger.
4. Nothing Special: This song has screaming on it and he screams in the the beginning. The guitar and bass are as distorted as before and the drums are getting beaten the same as before. The best part of the song that makes  it different is the screams, but also the 5second feedback on the right headphone.
5. Blackout: The beginning riff is like evil and the feed back or the sound effects in the back ground make it even that much more evil. When the lead guitar comes in it echos. This beginning, especially when the lead guitar comes in reminds me of Raining Blood by Slayer. Listening to this is like a 5 minute emotional, feedback, breakdown which pumps you up.
6. Electric: This song is what that 5 minute build up was worth waiting for. The drums have some different thing to them. The overall sound of the music has a type of Black Sabbath feel to it. Like the song War Pigs off the 1970 album Paranoid (which I'm also going to review). Then it changes into something different. I like this more that that
7. Pseudo-Bread: The very beginning, like first 5 seconds remind me again of Black Sabbath. This song has at about 1:40 the chorus comes in, and in there are backing vocal that go "who who" which I think are funny. The guitar solo is just as distorted as probably Purple Haze on a live version of the song. But instead of not really fitting the song, Boris distorted guitar solos fit the whole song. And I love how the last 
8. Afterburner: This is another song that reminds me of a cross between Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. There is hand claps in this song which think are kind of, in a way, funny because the way the rest of the album has gone this song is probably like where they got tried from all the energy and play this to regain their energy. It starts to pick up at the ending but then goes back to the rhythm as before.
9. Six, Three Times: This is another type of Jimi song. Don't really know what to say about this one either until my second time listening to it. This song, and album, seems like it would be something like a band that is signed to Ipecac Records called RETOX, except they don't have any solos and they scream on all the songs. But this is still a good song, and it almost makes me want to listen to the Vinyl i got as a gift of Axis: Bold As Love.
10. My Machine: This song is completely different from the rest of the album. I think it is like a relaxer to make the next track more of an impact.The beginning of the songs guitar part, before the piano type sound comes in, reminds me of Everlong by one of my least favorite artists... ever the Foo Fighters. 
11. Just Abondoned My-Self: This song explodes. It is 18 minutes on the Southern Lord Cd version but on the original Japanese release just 10 minutes. This is like a extended version of Pink and Woman on the Screen. The guitar solo has some atmosphere adding screams in it. This song is just a fricken emotional melt down that has like an awesome drum fills that come in at around 4:30 minutes. With backing vocals at around 5 minutes. Whoever is singing has to be able to have big lungs because imagine playing this live. The music somewhat changes and seems to be looped at around 7 minutes, where the drums begin to fade away leaving a more clear drum beat, until at about 9 minutes into it where the drums stop completely and its just a riff and feedback. The thing that's cool is that the way it is is it is a build up to wait for the drums to come back. And the fire sound in the background only makes it that much more of a buildup. As the fire sound gets more prominent it begins to add to the songs feed back covering up that open space that was empty because of the drums.At 11:55 there is something that sounds like a broken clean distorted guitar string notes hit or some type of  piano strings getting hit of struck in the background. I feel that the need for the drums is filled and. The thing about this that awesome is Lou Reed & Metallica made Lulu which came out last November. Now the last track Junior Dad is my favorite and is 19 minutes long. The last about 9 minutes of the song is complete feed back looped. This is the exact same thing except this is more going on and doesn't get boring because there is different parts that change in the what sounds like a loop. All the extra feed back ends really at 17:30ish and there is a buzzing that is heard in the feed back and it just cuts. I messed up the loop pretty much starts at like 7 or 8 minutes. So the loop is longer that the one on Lulu. I honestly have to thank The Flaming Lips for the 12hours of 7 Skies 3H which is pretty much all loops of 24 hours. If it wasn't for you I'd never be able to listen to 20 even 30 minute loops. I mean COME ON! that just easy kid stuff. This song is also a song I would listen to recrationally, outside of the album.

Overall I'd  give this album a 9.5/10. I really liked it and hope to do another Boris album review in the future. And If I do then I'll have a bunch to chose from, why may you ask. Well because they release different versions of some of their albums in different labels whether it's Vinyl or Cd it is different. This album is had parts that reminded me of artists from Black Sabbath to Jimi Hendrix to The White Stripes and even Metallica's 2003 album St. Anger and also a newer band RETOX. This is an aggressive album and it is pretty much a easy choice for me to add to my list of best album. I wonder how different it would sound if Yamantaka was on the album?
